This is what a CV check looks like

A full example, start to finish, so you know what you get before you type anything. It is a constructed case, not a real candidate — and no, we don't keep anyone's CV.

The case

Job posting
Shop assistant, part-time — grocery chain, Bergen. Norwegian required, retail experience an advantage.
The CV that was checked
Three years of customer service abroad, Norwegian B1, no Norwegian work experience yet, three pages, photo and year of birth at the top.

Feedback (Norwegian hiring norms)

  • The CV runs to three pages. The Norwegian norm is 1–2 — the first two pages are what actually gets read.
  • You list duties (“responsible for the till”), not results. Write what it led to: shorter queues, fewer errors, training new staff.
  • Photo and year of birth sit at the top. In Norway that is neither required nor forbidden — on an open listing they take up space without giving you anything back.

Which language should you apply in?

Free

NorwegianThe posting is in Norwegian and the role means customer contact every day. Apply in Norwegian — B1 is enough here, and a Norwegian søknad shows you actually use the language.

Add a “Key qualifications” block at the top, four lines: customer service, till and cash handling, languages, availability. Move the three years abroad above education — it is your strongest card here, and right now it sits on page two.
